BIPOC Mental Health: Barriers & Strength in Community

July was BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. While there are common barriers to mental healthcare, there are unique challenges and needs for BIPOC communities that intersect with the ongoing discrimination, oppression, inequity, and collective and individual trauma that is rooted in U.S. history. The Western, eurocentric medical model exacerbates these barriers and inaccessibility. This year's theme, Strength in Communities, highlights BIPOC community developed support systems that fill in the gaps of mainstream healthcare.
